Three hours before taking off to the airport, I was booking flights and accommodations for a few days in Brussels, Belgium. A last minute trip to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday.
This was our first time in Brussels, so we wanted to get a taste of the city and culture. Our goal was to relax and wander around the city with no schedule. We came across cool contemporary buildings that I have only seen in Azure magazine, and other historical buildings and sites from hundreds of years ago.
We managed to explore a lot of the city and some great chocolate shops, beer tours and restaurants along the way. Shopping at Royal Galleries is a must. The alluring smell of chocolate is tough to resist as you walk from one chocolatier to another. What could be better than fresh Belgian chocolate tastings as you shop?
We stumbled upon a hidden Belgian Brewers Museum from the 18th century. Sipping Belgian beer in a traditional basement with arches and fireplaces provides quite the atmosphere.
The Botanical Garden of Brussels (where I am in the above photos) is exquisite. Walking through the garden of perfection with water fountains and statues from the 1800's is very peaceful. The Le Botanique rotunda building has an indoor garden as well.
Of course there are many great restaurants around Brussels. Grand Place is stunning, we found ourselves gravitating back to that area. Enjoying great food and drinks while being surrounded with the architecture in that area is a surreal feeling. Celebratory drinks at Delirium Cafe was a must. We spent hours enjoying the unique drink menu, great music and packed venue.

I really enjoy the design aesthetic throughout the city. Overall Brussels is very chic, mixing traditional elements (like Belgian Lace) with very contemporary styles. It is very refreshing to see forward thinking design.
