Love is in air. The countdown to Valentine's day is officially on. My guy and I are celebrating more than just Valentine's as we explore the history, landscapes and vibrant culture of Sicily, Italy. We started off our trip in England, where we attended his MBA graduation and then went on to celebrate his recent accomplishments, V-Day and his birthday (which is actually today ;)) all at the same time.
I couldn't ask for a more romantic place to be to celebrate love, and the hard work that has gone into the past few years. After two + years of living abroad, and 9 years of being a pro-athlete, David decided to get his Masters Degree to retire and transition into the business world. The life of an athlete is pretty intense to say the least. Trains, planes and automobiles literally is life between one or two a days, practicing/conditioning and then at least two games per week. Mix in going to school, finishing papers and exploring Europe with me as much as possible. I honestly don’t know how he did it all!
I have been keeping busy working on projects and flying back and forth from Canada to the UK/EU frequently in between all of it. Our communication while I was away was challenging with the 8-9 hour time difference. In between both of our full schedules, we had to make as much time as possible everyday to chat and of course plan our next adventures together (thank god for FaceTime!)
25 countries later and we are both back living in Canada now. It is the first time in 5 years of being together that we are living full-time in the same Country.
I believe that the most important thing in a relationship is to celebrate the little things, every single day. We are not focused on Anniversaries/Birthdays/Christmas etc. but enjoying everything including the obstacles that we overcome in our LD relationship. As we begin a new chapter in our lives, we will remember the sacrifices that have brought us to where we are. David is starting a new job, a completely new career and living in Canada for the first time in 15 years. It is definitely a new beginning for both of us personally and in our relationship.
Although the trip itself was a great gift to enjoy together, I was struggling to find something to get him that is both special and practical. I found this natural walnut watch from JORD, a North American based company with Swiss movement and an interesting twist on a classic watch. As David has a variety of watches from metal bands to leather and canvas, I knew it would be a great addition to the collection. The wood is perfect for casual styling as well as dressing up for his new job. The natural colours of the wood and rose gold hands work great with navy or grey suits and tie in nicely with brown shoes.
With a push to add natural elements/sustainable products, wood accents are a massive trend this year in home + fashion and it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. There are several benefits to manufacturing wood products. The most important being that it stores Carbon while emitting less carbon dioxide, is renewable and of course is aesthetically pleasing/timeless. My biggest tip is if you live in a very dry or hot/cold climate, to make sure you care for it by treating the wood with the preserve cleaning oil. This will clean and treat it to help prevent cracking. The watches also comes with a humidity control packs that fits perfectly in the drawer of the cedar watch box. Each watch comes with a 1 year warranty.
The organic nature of the wood designs allows each piece to be one of a kind and is certainly a great conversation piece. Check out other JORD wood watches here. I have also tagged their women’s selections for those of us with small wrists here ;).
I have teamed up with JORD for a Valentine's contest for my readers to have a chance to win a $100.00 gift code towards a watch of your choice. Click here to enter to win. Each person who enters will receive a $25.00 code at the end of the contest. The Valentine's contest ends Feb 12, 2017. Good luck & enjoy your wood watch!
