My search for the perfect Bomber Jacket with a twist is over. Bombers are one of my fave classic jacket silhouettes. They never go out of style, you can wear them casually or dress them up just as easily.
I already own an all black leather, white, and brown bomber, so I have been on the lookout for one with a different fabric, pattern or detailing for Fall. I found a lot with floral patterns, which I wasn't crazy about. When I found this Camo sleeve bomber with a chrome zip from Shein I knew it would be a perfect addition to my wardrobe. This piece is reminiscent of one of my fave Prada menswear jackets from a few years ago that was unfortunately too big for me to wear.
As this is a thinner, almost sweater like jacket, it is very versatile and easy to incorporate into several different looks for every season. Layering is a must for this piece, especially in cooler weather. The contemporary Camo adds a cool, street style element. Choosing coordinating pieces that are the colours in the sleeves tie it all together for a chic look. Check out this Bomber and many other versions of Falls staple jacket here.
As it was quite the process to find a fun bomber that really suited my style, I have put together my top 3 tips for finding the perfect Bomber this Fall.
1 I Decide the thickness of the jacket - If you would like to wear it as the final layer for FW, I would go for a down or synthetic filled one. These may look more like a puffy jacket, as they are meant to be worn overtop all of your clothes to keep warm.
If you are looking for a lighter jacket or to layer underneath a coat or jacket, I would choose a lighter fabric, with a zipper or snap closures, for easy layering and more versatility.
2 I Pattern vs. Solid - As a Bomber is a wardrobe staple, it is great to have a solid coloured option for a timeless look that can be thrown over just about any outfit. Now is the time to add a unique fabric or pattern as there are way too many fun options this Fall. Many jackets I found are embellished or have prints featuring colourful florals (huge for FW16). A unique design is great, but be sure to find a pattern that you love, not just a trend, or you'll get sick of wearing it.
3 I Play with proportions - When layering jackets or coats, it is always favourable to pair with pieces that have varied hemlines. This creates a more interesting look and can transform this casual jacket style into an office look or more dressy for date night. Remember to stay with proportions that flatter your body shape/height. It is also fun to play with proportions of footwear, as I did here. The classic OTK boot styled with this laid back bomber, turns the look up a notch.
