Spring/Summer Trends

Image
One of the latest photo shoots I worked on was all about Spring/Summer womenswear trends. We shot a variety of looks; from mini to maxi skirts, minimalist to intricate hand beaded pieces.  My fav look from this shoot is the sporty, chic look with the art printed cropped top and faux leather trouser. I love the contrast of black and white, while adding a pop of colour - This happens to be a huge trend for S/S 14'. Another one of my top styles for Fashion + Home is Minimalism. I wanted to create an all white look with clean, crisp lines. This  version of minimalism compliments the models body shape by balancing the outfit with a fitted cropped top with a boxy skirt silhouette. I finished off the look with a pair of white sky high, sexy T- Strap heels to visually elongate her leg.  Another one of my fav looks from this shoot is a maxi dress with a sheer overlay and a beautifully crisscrossed back. A maxi dress can be worn with statement jewellery and fash...

Cropped Tops & Camouflage

Image
Even though stores are already bringing in Fall merchandise, it is finally time for us Canadians to start wearing our spring/summer clothes! Crop tops have been in for many seasons. I love the fun, flirty cropped look for S/S.  It is important to balance your outfit as they are exposing your midriff. Pairing a cropped top with a high waisted skirt that is knee length can create a sleek, classy look without showing too much skin. A maxi skirt or mid to high waisted pant also works well. Cropped tops are also great for layering - you can layer it over a maxi dress, or layer under a jacket as I did here. I loved this top in particular because the fabric is unique, and very comfortable! The long sleeves with the simple crew neckline work great with many of my existing pieces. These Valentino sandals caught my eye with the black & gold contrast. I also  love the lace detailing on the sole.  The gold hardware on these sandals work great with several of ...

Poppy Plaza

Image
A great way to spend a Sunday - shooting at Poppy Plaza, a  location that opened downtown Calgary in the summer of 2013. It is an  interesting spot with a lot going on. There is a nice ambiance with the river  running by, city skyscrapers surrounding the area, and cool cantilevered  wood plank benches to sit on and enjoy the busy city moving around you. One of my favourite shots is of the  model swinging off the letter "M".   The "M" was to represent the brand Malika Couture, as the pieces for that look  were pulled from her collection. The following are a few  of my favourite shots and some behind the scenes on location.  Photographer: Charles Torrealba  -  Model: Maegan O'Neill  -   Leather Jacket: Malika Couture      Dress: Elizabeth & James  -  Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs  -   Ring: BCBG MAXAZRIA   Photographer: Cam Wood  -  Model: Maegan O'Neill ...

I miss being able to walk down to the ocean bay downtown Vancouver, however, any water is good for me - natural or man made! One of the classic Spring/Summer styles is Nautical. This particular look is a modern version of that style. This navy blue silk shirt dress is comfortable and great to layer or wear as a dress on hot summer days. I paired it with these white linen and navy striped peep toe wedges, which are comfortable and lightweight perfect for...
